How Wisconsin licenses lodging
DATCP licenses hotels and motels under ATCP 72, whose revised rules took effect on January 25, 2026. Licences are tiered by the number of individually keyed units, which is where the room bands in this file come from.
Bed and breakfasts have their own chapter, ATCP 73. County health departments act as DATCP's agents in some places, and every licence runs from July 1 to June 30, so renewal season falls at the same time for the whole state.

What the Wisconsin file leaves out
Rooms come as a band, never an exact count. Milwaukee and Dane counties license on their own, so those two are thinner here than the map would suggest.
Licences here turn over with the July renewal cycle, and no new ones have appeared since 2026-10-13, so plan on a yearly refresh instead of a weekly one.
