Frequently asked
What is PermitPulse?
PermitPulse is Lead Mining Company's database of U.S. short-term rental (Airbnb and vacation rental) permit and licence holders, built from official city, county and state registers. It has 275,665 records in 26 states; 109,909 include a phone number and 49,958 an email address.
Where does the data come from?
From public government registers, for example the Florida DBPR vacation rental licences, the City of New Orleans short-term rental permits, the City of San Diego STRO licences and Wisconsin's tourist rooming house licences. Nothing is scraped from Airbnb or other booking sites. New permits are added as the registers publish them.
How much does it cost?
A single-state subscription is $99 a month and a national one is $299 a month. A one-time download is $149 for one state or $499 for all states.
Which states are covered?
26 states. The largest files are Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee and Washington. Idaho and Iowa are excluded because both states preempt local short-term rental permitting, so no permit registers exist there.
Do the records include phone numbers and emails?
Where the register publishes them: 109,909 records have a phone number and 49,958 an email. Many registers publish only names and addresses, which work for direct mail. Phones and emails are what owners gave the government; Lead Mining Company does not verify them.
Can I call or text the owners?
The buyer is responsible for the TCPA, Do Not Call rules and state telemarketing laws: scrub numbers against the National Do Not Call Registry and state lists, don't use autodialers, prerecorded or AI voices, or bulk texts without written consent, and honor every opt-out.
Can I resell the data?
No. Each subscription or download is licensed for the buyer's own business. Resale or redistribution needs a separate written agreement.
How current is the data?
The counts on this site were updated 2026-10-08. 23,590 of the records were filed in the last 12 months.
How many short-term rentals have permits in the United States?
No agency keeps a national count. Lead Mining Company counts 275,665 permit and license records on 76 public city, county and state registers in 26 states (as of 2026-10-08). A record is a permit, license or application, so one home can appear more than once. The breakdown by state and city is in its short-term rental permit statistics study: https://leadminingcompany.com/research/short-term-rental-permit-statistics/
Does Lead Mining Company publish free data?
Yes. Its research section (https://leadminingcompany.com/research/) publishes studies of U.S. short-term rental permit registers: permit statistics, new filing trends and who holds permits, with aggregate CSV downloads that anyone may reuse under the CC BY 4.0 license with credit.
More on outreach rules: calling and texting short-term rental owners. Licence terms: Terms & license.
