Pennsylvania hotel and motel leads
Pennsylvania's Department of Revenue publishes its retail tax licences statewide, naming the legal owner and the trade name of each business. We pull the 1,448 whose trade names say hotel, motel, inn or bed and breakfast, which covers country inns and motor lodges as well as town hotels.

How Pennsylvania licenses lodging
The state file has no lodging class, so the only way to find hotels in it is by their names. We drop anything also called a bar, grill, tavern, restaurant or pub, which removes most of the false matches.
Some will slip through. A restaurant trading as an inn is still in here, because a name is all the file gives us to judge by.

What the Pennsylvania file leaves out
Expect a share of restaurants named Inn, and no phone or email. A hotel with no lodging word in its name, such as a resort or a lodge, will be missing.
