California hotel and motel leads
California publishes no statewide lodging list that we can use, so this file covers two cities. Los Angeles lists active businesses in traveler accommodation, and San Francisco flags the registered businesses that pay its hotel tax. That gives 2,289 records with names and addresses.
Counts refreshed 2026-11-04. Issuing agency: the City of Los Angeles Office of Finance and the San Francisco Treasurer and Tax Collector.

How California licenses lodging
San Francisco's file marks each registered location that pays transient occupancy tax. We sort the ones with a hotel licence, a hotel business code or a hotel, inn or motel in the trade name into this file, and the rest in with rentals. The split is ours, not the city's.
Los Angeles uses federal industry codes. Its accommodation code covers hotels and also small operators, including some people renting out a home, so a row here is not always a hotel.

What the California file leaves out
Neither city publishes a phone or email. Los Angeles often names the person or company behind the business, and only about a third of its rows give a trade name. Outside these two cities we hold no California lodging records.
Both files were first copied on 2026-11-04. Each carries the date the business location opened, so you can sort by the newest openings.

Working the California list
Filter by city
Type Los Angeles or San Francisco into the city filter and you have one market's list.
Letters, then calls
San Francisco gives a mailing address on every row, and it is often not the hotel's own address, which helps you reach the owner directly.
California questions
Is this all of California?
No. Only Los Angeles and San Francisco. Rental permits for other California cities are counted with our rentals.
Why are some rows people, not hotels?
City accommodation codes include small operators, and we keep what the city reports.
