New trucking company leads for truck dispatch services

An owner-operator who just registered has a truck, a USDOT number and no back office. The census file lists them by registration date, with the cargo they plan to haul.

Counts refreshed October 29, 2026 from the live file.

How dispatch services use the file

Pick owner-operators

Power units set to 1 returns carriers that reported one power unit or none, the group most likely to want dispatch help.

Match the cargo you book

Use the Cargo filter (for example refrigerated food or building materials) so the pitch fits the loads you already book.

Know where dispatch ends

FMCSA has published guidance on when a dispatch service counts as a broker. It finalized that guidance in June 2023 after an interim notice in November 2022. Read it before you pitch a service that arranges loads for several carriers.

A worked example

  1. Set Power units to 1. 122,643 carriers in the file, 69%, report one power unit or none.
  2. Turn on For hire only. Private carriers move their own goods and do not need loads booked.
  3. Type the freight you book into Cargo contains. Across the last 90 days the most common cargo was general freight (22,005 carriers).
  4. Choose Registered in the last 30 days (11,218 carriers before the other filters) and download.
  5. Scrub the phones, then work the list newest first while the carrier is still setting up.

The first message

Say plainly what you do and what you charge, and whether you book loads for one carrier or several. New registrations are public, so a new owner-operator may hear from several vendors in the same week; a short message with your fee, the lanes you know and a reference they can call stands out more than a long pitch.

Filters to start with

  • Power units: 1
  • For hire only
  • Cargo: the freight you book
  • Registered in the last 30 days

What the file does not tell you

The file does not show whether a carrier already uses a dispatcher, which lanes it runs or its equipment type beyond the cargo boxes it checked.

Compliance

Owner-operator phones are usually personal mobiles. The TCPA and the National Do Not Call Registry apply to sales calls and texts; no autodialers, prerecorded or AI voices, and no texts without consent. Public records are not consent to be called. This is not legal advice. Terms of use.

Questions

Does a dispatch service need broker authority?
It depends on what the service does. FMCSA's guidance (interim November 2022, final June 2023) explains when dispatching becomes brokering. This is not legal advice; read the guidance or ask counsel.
How do I find owner-operators only?
Set the Power units filter to 1. It returns carriers that reported one power unit or none on their registration.
